Good advice. May I add that a daily dose of fish oil supplements also help in lowering bad cholesterol. I prefer taking fish oil as a preventive measure; I'm 51 yrs. old and I guess taking it regularly helps maintain my blood pressure at 110/80.

Dear Nicole,

You must have been reading my mind. I came here today to look for information on diets for lowing cholesterol AND lowering triglycerides - and found this post! I've recently stopped eating animals (except for an occasional fishy) .. and have added tofu and hummus to my diet. Most food additives don't like me and I don't like them.. so now I'm in the process of trying to make up my own diet. Current diets that I've found online often recommend prepared food that have TVP (textured vegetable protein) or things like whey, autolyzed yeast, etc., in them - which I cannot eat.

I guess I'm going to get creative.. hmmm... how 'bout celery and raw green beans dipped in hummus and fresh salsa for a snack? Organic and no GMOs, of course!

Thanks for the great post and the list of tips to increase fiber. I'm printing it out. :-)
