This website is dedicated to the memory of my dear teacher Dr. Bill Mitchell.
I was blessed to have been a student in the last class he ever taught at Bastyr University before his sudden departure from us all. Actually, I think I might have even been the last student to ask him a question about Naturopathic Medicine. He was such a great teacher that he could even get a worn out exhausted med student in their graduating year to bother to ask a question on a Friday evening.
Dr. Mitchell’s humor, creativity, and infectious enthusiasm for alternative medicine are the qualities I hope to carry along to Kitchen Table Medicine. I will do my best to promote Naturopathic Medicine through education and community in memory of the light that he was for his students and patients.
Most teachers will never know how much they mean to their students.I would like to take a moment to thank all my teachers for shedding their light on my path.
It never ceases to amaze me what teachers do, and how selflessly they give. It also never ceased to amaze me that one of the co-founders of our school, a well known popular doctor would often just be seen hanging out at a “kitchen table” in the Bastyr cafeteria, eating his lunch and waiting for students to stop by and chat or ask questions. I was blessed to have that kind of attention and generosity from my teacher, and I hope through this virtual “kitchen table” we can all continue to carry along that candid, down to earth brilliant spirit of Dr. Bill Mitchell.
Namaste,
Dr. Nicole Sundene

She believes we should utilize natural medicines to treat the root cause of disease rather than just treating symptoms, as symptoms are a message of imbalance sent from the body and will persist until they are properly addressed.

Nicole,
He seems like a truly wonderful man! From what you wrote about him, he reminds me a lot of my friend that died - a genuine selfless caring teacher who loved what he did and was passionate about sharing it with others. What else could you ask for in a person? We are truly fortunate to have know these men. I believe I was put exactly where I am right now at this place so that I could know my teacher and learn from him and carry on his work… Truly great men will not be forgotten!! Thanks for sharing this with us and thanks for sharing his teaching with us.
Yes Jennifer, it is important to me to to try and “carry on the work”. When someone really inspires you, I think you just owe it to them. Plain and simple.
